Dear Social Enterprise Practitioners,
We invite you to participate in our upcoming on-line conference and dialogue about Social Enterprise and to learn more about the SEEP Network.
Practitioners have an opportunity now to define their field further and to develop a framework and methodology for global social and economic development through enterprise. Participants will help create a definitive framework for Social Enterprise that will include actual examples and models from the field.
The Vision is to build bridges between the independent social enterprise players and international development organizations, and thus grow the social enterprise community of practice, knowledge, sharing, and resources, of this powerful, innovative and promising approach to international development.
Together we will:
- Review and comment on a positioning paper that attempts to define social enterprise and places various models of social enterprise into the international development context. Read the Positioning Paper (available here July 1).
- Contribute and discuss the development of a framework that further defines what social enterprise is (and what it is not). How does Social Enterprise fit among other poverty alleviation and economic development approaches? Join the Dialogue
- Contribute examples of Social Enterprise in the field and share experiences in developing successful social enterprises. Empirical examples will show how social enterprise works and how it can be successful.
- Provide recommendations for how the SEEP Network should go forward with Social Enterprise – should the SEEP Network become the home for global social enterprise?
Online discussion will take place between July 15 and July 31, followed by the final synthesis of the positioning paper, including the assimilation of examples provided by SEEP Network members. Discussion proceedings will also be presented and discussed at the 2008 SEEP Annual Conference, November 4-7, 2008.
I look forward to hearing your contribution to the Defining Social Enterprise On-line Conference!
Sincerely,
Will Morgan
