SPWG is accomplishing its objectives with the following actions:
1. Exchanging ideas, experiences, and other information related to client assessment with working group members, other SEEP members, SEEP network affiliates, and the microfinance community at large.
2. Developing, testing, and refining client assessment and social performance measurement tools and systems that are practitioner-friendly and that inform management decisions.
3. Promoting client-centered practices that enhance social and economic impact.
In 2006, the working group published a Social Performance Glossary, which articulates a coherent framework for evaluating social performance, defines key terms and concepts, and defines best practice principles in social performance. The purpose of the glossary is to establish standards for social performance among SEEP members.
Additionally, the working group is in the process of completing a Social Performance Map summarizing social performance experience, knowledge, initiatives, and approaches to date from the NGO, private, and microfinance sectors. The goal is to provide stakeholders with comprehensive information to make more informed decisions regarding, for example, program management or social investment. It will also help them to align expectations with what is feasible or desirable.
