Hello and welcome to the Resources portion of the Social Enterprise Working Group discussion!

The definitions of Social Enterprise vary considerably, and at some times they even conflict with one another. While there is no definitive description of Social Enterprise, and there’s no authoritative definition, below are the websites of some of the most popular websites for Social Enterprise.

For the purposes of our discussion, we are using the following definition:

A Social Enterprise is defined as a nonprofit organization or socially-oriented venture that advances its social mission through entrepreneurial market-based approaches to increase its effectiveness and financial sustainability with the ultimate goal of creating social benefit or change.

The Positioning Paper on Social Enterprise will be available July 1 under What is Social Enterprise?
