After completing Masters in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka in 1986 I joined in Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies. Therefore, I worked as consultant for Centre for Studies in Sustainable Development, the ILO, the Embassy of Japan, The Royal Danish Embassy, Save the Children (UK), etc.
I founded Unnayan Uddog (Literary meaning development initiative), a non-profit, non-government organization dedicated to serve the poor and disadvantaged of the society in Bangladesh.
I emphasizes on micro-finance, because I strongly believe that lacking of it, poverty reduction of the poor is a meaningless attempt. If the poor are cared of and provided with training, marketing and microfinance support then the MDG could be achieved.
Recently Unnayan Uddog has engaged to set up a Community Food Bank in achieving food security for the rural poor in collaboration with two universities – Jahangirnagar University of Bangladesh and University of Hull, UK. DFID funds the project. It’s a very innovative project and deserves all development policy makers’ attention.
The idea is developed by Rathindranath Pal.
Unnayan Uddog is also working to make successful a child sponsorship program and, therefore, lunched a fundraising program for the purpose. Please note that the proposed child sponsorship program is not like others. It is quite different, innovative and sustainable. To do sponsor a child we will help to establish a small family business of the sponsored child with the commitment of the parents that they will send their children who is not enrolled or drop-out due to extreme poverty causes. In addition, in the programme the sponsored money is refundable. You may visit our website: www.unnayanuddog.org or can ask for details.
